NGOC ANH NGUYEN

Anh trained in classical ballet at the Vietnamese Dance College before graduating with an honor distinction.  He won a full scholarship at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts from 1998-2002, he then went on to work with the Vietnamese Opera Theatre, Hong Kong/New York Dance Company, Les Ballets Persans, Wayne McGregor | Random Dance and Phoenix Dance Theatre, returning to Wayne McGregor| Random Dance in 2008.

Anh has been a part-time teacher and a regular choreographer for Doreen Bird College since 2005. He was invited as an external eyes examiner for London Contemporary Dance School 2009-2010. In May 2010, he was appointed as Rehearsal Director/Dancer for Henri Oguike Dance Company. Anh was also co-choreographer with Henri Oguike for the work “Butterfly Dreaming” which was premiered on 1-2 Nov 2010.

He has won third prize in the Vietnamese National Dance Competition in 2002 and the New British Choreography Bonnie Bird Award in 2005.  In 2008, he won the Spotlight Award of the Critics’ Circle dance Awards (Outstanding male artist). Anh has established as a professional choreographer since 2002, his works reached the semi-final at The Place Prize in 2006 and has been presented at The British Creative Exchange Exhibition, Union Dance, Doreen Bird College…With a great honor as an ex-graduated student, Anh was commissioned a work “Flashback”, celebrating the 25th Anniversary of The Hong Kong Academy For Performing Arts. Where he shared bill with well-known international choreographers such as William Forsythe, Graeme Murphy, Zhao Ming and so on.

He was one of the assistants for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Opening Show at ROMA09 Swimming World Championship. Anh had collaborated with LIU QI of Quang Dong Modern Dance for DANCE NOW at Sadler’s Wells in 2008, and choreographed for Hair Alternative Fashion Show in London 2009.  Anh was one of the six choreographers who created a huge success show for English National Ballet’s education department called “ Swanning Around” in June 2010. In addition, Anh is a qualified fitness instructor and teaches widely in the UK and internationally.
