K J Clarke – Davis

Kj Clarke-Davis, born in London but based in Glasgow, first started dancing at the age of 17 at a community street dance group. A short while later he moved on to train and dance with hip-hop based company Rebirth Network, regularly touring across the UK and as far as New York performing and teaching. He started his contemporary based training at City and Islington College in 2008, before attending Laban in 2011, and then Middlesex University to complete his studies in 2014. Passionate about learning and sharing the knowledge he did have, he spent a lot of time teaching alongside his studies. As an Artist Bank member he represented and delivered dance for both Sadlers Wells & EastLondon Dance between 2011 and 2013, working on projects such as Big Dance Schools’ Pledge 2012, aswell as various community projects and workshops spanning across north and east London.

After graduating from Middlesex in 2014 he went on to become a company dancer at London’s premiere contemporary jazz company Sol Dans Company where he occasional taught company class at Pineapple Studios London, as well as featuring in the work of company choreography Melody Squire. Also in 2014 Kj joined emerging UK choreographer Brian Gillespie’s company B-Hybrid Dance, performing in a number of company pieces, including ‘Breaking Breath’ at Resolution! 2015.

Most recently Kj toured Scotland as a dancer with Glasgow based Barrowland Ballet’s ‘Whiteout’ in the spring of 2015. The show is returning and will be on at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer. At present Kj is the participation and outreach artist at Barrowland Ballet working under the mentorship of choreographer Natasha Gilmore. Within his role he has been designing, organising, and delivering community and inclusive workshops and projects across Scotland, as well as leading and delivering work with Barrowland Ballet Youth Company.
